Welcome to my website, Recovery in
Poetry
! Here you will find a sample of
these collectible poems that I have
written over a 26 year period that has
helped me during my continuing
recovery from a very severe traumatic
brain injury. As I slowly came out of a
six week coma, I discovered that I was
a different person; I had lost my
identity and many cognitive abilities.
That loss led to depression and grief.
Poetry helped me on my journey to
recovery by expressing my feelings
from despair to hope. It gave me a
feeling of purpose. For those of you
who have experienced a loss of self, I
hope that my poetry will bring you
hope. I also hope that my poems will
be helpful to family members who have
a loved one with a traumatic brain
injury.

This website may enlighten you to see
life clearer through eyes of all people.
White, black, red, brain injured,
mentally disabled etc..we're all the
same because we all have thoughts and
feelings that have importance. We all
mirror each other in some way.

Losing Wanderers

I assume that with garbage around the
house,
There may be a mouse,
Crawling out of the woodwork,
Deciding to go berserk,
Over the garbage laying around,
Finding some saying "Look what I found!"
That will not be in my home,
They will leave me alone.
Because no mice will be seen,
As long as I am in control,
Their only role,
Is to keep out,
And wander about,
Outside of my house.

Esteem

We cannot judge or suppose,
Someone by their looks or their clothes,
We haven't any facts or figures,
Of their lifestyles and maneuvers.
Although we do analyze their display,
Right or wrong we make comparisons
continually.
There is no magic in how our minds
function,
It is important to retain a healthy
cognition,
In fact it is mandatory,
Self-respect,
Is a big factor in believing this to be
correct.
